
Ormond was born in Epsom (Surrey) as the daughter Josephine Ormond, a laboratory technician , as is John Ormond. She is the fifth of five kids born to her parents. First, she attended Guildford High School and then Cranleigh School. There, her first lead roles in Guys and Dolls and My Fair Lady were noticed. After a single year at arts school, she was transferred to Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, where she graduated in 1988. Ormond was first shown on British television in 1989's serial Traffik. The show focused on the illegal trade in heroin, from the far East to Europe. Ormond was the heroin-addicted kid of the main character an Home Office minister working to combat heroin importation. The first role he played earned rave reviews.
